Ulster American Folk Park Trip
On Thursday we had another great shared education day out with Belleek Controlled and Gaelscoil Chluain. We headed to Omagh to travel back in time at the Ulster American Folk Park. With our small mixed school groups we headed on our adventures around the park. We visited old houses in Ireland, the forge, the weavers cottage and many other places in old 18th and 19th century Ireland. We then decided it was time to emigrate to America. Off we went and bought our tickets, and a mere 12 weeks later we arrived in the New land. We didn’t get very well settled in America before we all realised how hungry we were, it was time for lunch. Afterwards we had another quick tour with the school to visit the Melon Homestead, the only house still on its original site in the park. We learned all about chores, cooking, keeping a house and bringing payment of 2 turf to attend school. We were even treated to some pancake before heading home. A great time was had by all, a fantastic journey back in history and a lot of quality time with the other schools. Until the next time.
